March 7- Stephen Fite Field Trip
March 26-30- Spring break!

We will have lunch at the Eastchase Chick Filet after the Stephen Fite Concert.Each child will get 4 nuggets, fries a drink, and an ice cream cup. The cost of this is $3.15 per child. Please send this in by February 29.

Please continue to go over papers that come home and read with your child. We continue to have problems with time management that will hurt us in first grade if we don't break some of these habits. Please talk with your child if you see "Use your time wisely!" on any paper. This is an indication that your child is not working within our time limits. Thanks for your help!

The S.G.A. is collecting can goods now through Jan.23 for the food bank to benefit needy families in our area. The class in grades k4- 6th collecting the most cans will receive a special lunch party. If you would like, please send these in at your convenience.

Dates to remember:
January 13-15- The Annual P.L.A.S. Deer Hunt- This is a huge part of fund raising for our school, so please make sure you send the $5.00 or a dessert. The desserts should be delivered to the school on FRIDAY, JANUARY 13 by 8:00 am. Thanks for helping make this a success!
January 20- TEDDY BEAR DAY!!! In closing out our winter and bear unit, we always have this special day when our bears may come to school and spend the day. Please make sure your child can transport any bear they may bring on their own! Thanks.
January 24- The 100th day of school! Please bring 100 items in a sandwich or quart size ziplock by Jan. 24. You may choose whatever you like as long as it will fit in the ziplock! Let your child count out the items, counting by fives, tens, etc We will have a fun-filled day to celebrate making it to 100 days!

Academic news:
Recent sight words added are- him, on, did, girl, here, your, for. You'll be seeing these on homework sheets in the future.
Math skills we are working on- counting by fives and tens, telling time to the hour and half hour, and memorizing the following facts: 2+2=4, 3+2=5, 3+3=6, 4+2=6
Skills evaluated on our next report card- Birthdate, phone number, and address. Counting by 5's and 10's, identify penny, nickel, dime and quarter AND the value of each, and identify parts of the clock. We also need to continue to work on our social growth and work habits.

I hope everyone has had a restful and happy holiday!I'd like to thank the Taylor family for our day at the movie and all of you for your help at the party and generous gifts. I've really enjoyed the time I've gotten to spend with my family, but am ready to get back to school and work towards first grade!

Report cards will come home on Friday, Jan. 6. Each child was individually evaluated on the academic skills for this reporting period. Please note any areas that your child needs to improve and go over it with them. Sign and return them (in the blue holder) by Friday, Jan. 13. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me. I will be setting up conferences too. We are about half way through the year and really need to concentrate on following directions, becoming better listeners, time management, and giving our BEST efforts consistently.

I look forward to seeing everybody on Jan. 3, and can't wait to hear what Santa brought!

Christmas gifts are due Wednesday!
There will be no lunch served on Thursday and Friday. Your child will not need a backpack on Thursday or Friday, just a large bag to bring home their goodies on Friday!
Please let me know if you are going to the movie on Thursday or not, and if you'll be able to drive or plan on meeting us there. I need to have an idea of how many children I will need to transport there! We will leave from here at 8:15 SHARP!!!
No afterschool care on THURSDAY or FRIDAY!
Early dismissal (11:45) on THURSDAY-(unless you leave directly from the movie at 11:00) and FRIDAY-(unless you leave after the party around 10:30)

Dec. 15-Polar Express Movie Day compliments of the Taylor's. If you plan to meet us at the theatre, be there at 8:45. All people leaving from the school will leave at 8:30 just like last time. Please let me know what you will be doing!! You may leave from the movie at 11:00 for the day, or let your child return to school to be picked up at 11:45(Early Birds) or 12:00 (ALL OTHERS). Please note that school dismisses at 12:00 on Thursday AND Friday.
Dec. 16-Christmas Party!!!! Your child brought home the name they drew this week. Please have the gifts at school by WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14! Don't forget to put the names on them somewhere.If you are responsible for refreshments, a note will come home to you with the item you should send. You may send those on Friday morning. Thanks for helping with this! The party will begin at 9:30 and be over around 10:30. You are welcome to attend, but do not have to. Children may leave after the party is over at 10:30.Those who do not, should be picked up at 11:45 out front. There will be NO AFTERSCHOOL on Thursday or Friday!

November News!

This Friday, Nov. 11 is a school holiday in honor of Veteran's Day.

Our pow wow WILL be on Thursday, Nov. 17. I think that I will need only $4 from each child, instead of $5. This is due by Nov. 14. I still need pillowcases from Campbell, Emma, and Jacey. Please get these in as soon as possible since I have to cut them to have them ready!

On Friday, Nov. 18, we will go to the theatre to see Happy Feet Two! The Taylors have been VERY generous and will give each child and accompaning adults FREE admission! I will need $5 per child by Nov. 16 for the cost of a snack box and drink. We will leave at 8:30 SHARP and return around 11:00. If you would like to help transport children, please let me know.Parents who attend will be responsible for their concessions. Please be sure to let the Taylors know how much we appreciate this treat!

Orders for cookie dough are due Nov. 15. Veggie order pick-up will be Nov. 17.

Grandparents Day went very well and it was nice to visit with the children's grandparents!
This week is Red Ribbon Drug Awareness Week. Please check the announcements section on the home page for "dress up" instructions. On costume day, please make sure your child is comfortable and will be able to easily use the restroom!
The Halloween Festival is Thursday. Here is the final work schedule:

Report cards came home today in folders. Please go over them with your child. Sign and return them by Friday, Oct. 21. If you'd like to conference with me please send me an email or note.
Also in folders is the invitation to the Halloween party at 204 Palos Verdes Drive hosted by Charlee and Nikki. Let me know if you can be here at 9:45 and would like to drive.
We really need help at the carnival on the 7:00-7:30 shift. Let me know if you're available!
Grandparents Day is Friday at 1:30. A note is in the folder today. PLEASE make sure that you let me know how your child will be going home that day!!!!Just send me a note or email. Thanks!

Thurs. Oct. 6- Pumpkin Patch field trip. Wear your t shirt and tennis shoes. We will leave school at 8:15. All drivers should be here by 8:00. Remember, you must have a copy of your license and insurance on file in the office to drive. Most students have someone going with them, so you may want to carpool. Braden, Will, and Gini will meet us there. If this is more convenient for you too, just let me know. HOWEVER, we MUST go in as a group, so be there at 9:00 SHARP! Thanks. Your child will need a lunch and drink in a sack with their name on it. Parents may bring lunch or order there. No children ordering at the patch, please. If you can supply a cooler with ice, please let me know.

The homework you occasionally get should take 15 to 20 minutes. It should be signed and returned. This is not something for you to get real "stressed" over. It's just an opportunity to see what we are working on and what your child may need a little practice doing. Thanks for working with me.

Homecoming Week

I did not get picked for a jury, so I'll see everyone on Tuesday! Thanks to our sub, Miss Lori.
Dress up days for the rest of the week are:
Tuesday- Ninjas
Wedneaday- Pirates (no swords please)
Thursday- Red, white, and blue day. You may wear t shirts, jerseys, cheer suits, etc.
Friday- Dress as an animal from the African jungle.
The wagons are on display in the cafetorium. The winner will be chosen according to the most money collected. You may send loose change to drop in the bucket, if you choose. All proceeds go to our S. G. A.
Remember, we will have snack ONLY on Friday. School will dismiss after the pep rally at 12:00. If you attend the wagon parade and plan to leave with your child after, please let me know before taking your child.

We'll be learning the letters T-V this week and continue to recognize and count the numbers 0-20, as well as the words: zero-twelve.

Homecoming 2011

We will be working on our wagon next week. Please send any available stuffed animals, decorations, etc as soon as possible. Don't forget to label all items with your NAME. The wagon has to be on display in the cafetorium by Monday, Sept 19. Speaking of the 19th, I will have to be out that day to go to jury duty in Montgomery at The Federal Courthouse. I'm HOPING I will NOT be picked for a jury! If so, I could be out 2 to 3 days.

We have the following masks that you may use to plan an African animal costume around: elephant-1, zebra-3, lion-2, tiger-1, hyena-1, giraffe-1, bear-2, monkey-3, cheetah-2. This will be first come, first served, and they MUST be returned after the parade. Let me or Miss Stacie know if you're interested.

Continue to check your child's folder each night, and read and discuss the decodable books. All library books and decodable books must come back to school. Please help your child get in the habit of always returning these to their folder. Thanks!

We continue to work on settling down and developing good habits. Please try to arrive at school by 7:55, if possible. We are having a hard time getting started off in a timely manner. Thanks for your help.

Our first field trip will be to Dream Fields Farm (pumpkin patch) on Thursday, Oct. 6. We will leave school around 8:15 and must enter as a group. If you plan to go with us, please remember that you must have a copy of your driver's license and insurance on file in the office! The cost is $5.00 for adults and $10.00 for children. The money must be in by Monday, Sept. 12 so that we can give them our FINAL count. Send the money and who is going in a ziplock or envelope. We will take sack lunches for a picnic that day. More details later!

Have a great LONG weekend, and encourage your child to come back Tuesday ready to be a great listener AND give their best effort. THANKS!!!

We've had another good week. We continue to add letters and sounds to our "stack." So far, we've gone from Aa-Hh. We continue to do lots of fun activities with our numbers 1-20. Don't forget to check your child's papers nightly! You will be getting one of the laminated readers next week, as well as, a library book. Please help your child practice GOOD RESPONSIBILITY by returning these to school on time! Our library day is Thursday and the readers should be returned the FOLLOWING DAY!!

While our class is making great progress, we still need to work on listening habits, following directions, and tending to our needs.

More Great News From Our Classroom!

We've had another great week! We have been working with the letters A-D and the sounds associated with them. We continue to work on the numbers 0-20 and number WORDS one-ten. We started our stack of sight words with: the and a. Let your child look for these two words (and read them to you) in newspapers, stores, signs, etc. We've also counted sets and made patterns. Please look over the papers that come home daily with your child. Praise great work and review any problem areas you may see. I often write little notes on these for you as well as your child. The laminated decodable books that your child will bring home throughout the year MUST be returned in the folder the following day. We use those year sfter year in our classroom. I will need the Apple Pie book (sent home on Thursday and NOT returned on Friday) returned MONDAY from: Slade, Campbell, Jacey, Ava, Will, and Brady.

Our day begins promptly at 8:00!!!!! PLEASE make every effort to get your child here BY 7:55 or 8:00. Those who get here late get frustrated trying to "catch up" the rest of the morning. Thanks for letting your child come in on their own! We are really establishing good habits and routines!

Fridays are FABULOUS in our classroom. It's Spirit Day so we wear red, white, and blue to support our team! We have show and tell, play Bingo for prizes, and write our own Classroom News! Ask your child to tell you about our fun FRIDAYS! Beginning next week, don't forget that badges(50 cents) and a tattoo($1.00) MUST be purchased on THURSDAY MORNINGS and will come home in folders that AFTERNOON. Thanks for your help with this.Pep Rallies will be held on Home Game dates. They usually begin around 2:00 and end at dismissal time. Remember to talk to me about any problems your child might have with this. The football game "safety" form needs to be signed and returned by WEDNESDAY, AUG. 24! Go Pike!!!

Please support our P.T.O. and buy a "t"shirt for your child to wear on our field trips. I also encourage you to sell the spirit cards since the P.T.O. are always eager to provide things to all teachers and our classrooms!

Wow! What a GREAT first week of school. Thanks to Bryant and Will for our delicious lunches. Happy Birthday , boys.

This week, we worked on rules, listening, and getting to know our friends. We also reviewed ALL color words and introduced number words zero-ten.Flash these at home if you see that your child might need a little extra practice.

If you plan to drive on any of our fun-filled field trips this year, please send me a copy of your drivers license and insurance. The office must have these on file for you to drive!

I'm excited to begin the 2011-2012 school year!There will be a K4 and K5 Open House on Thursday, August 4th at 6 pm in the cafetorium. Please make plans to attend. The supply list is on the home page under announcements. Please label ALL supplies and avoid any "extras", since they usually become a distraction. Supplies should be delivered on Friday, the 5th, sometime during the day at your convenience. The first day of school will be Monday, August 8th. I look forward to a year of learning and fun!!! An invitation (in an envelope) for the end of the year party is in folders today! This is for the children and the other sheet contains more details for parents.Thanks to Dana and Jody for all their hard work on this! Please R.S.V.P. to Dana so that they will know how many to plan for. We hope to see everyone there! They have set the time so that anyone who has older children will be able to get back here in time to pick them up.This celebration has been planned for kindergarten graduates only. No siblings, please. Due to the liability concerns, ALL children must have an adult accompany them.

Please remember to send a 9x7 self addressed envelope with 2 stamps for your child's final report card. So far, I have Mari Grace, Emily, Ensley, and Grace.

April 20- Egg Hunt. We will leave at 10:00. Drivers are Carol Spurlock, Peggy Davis, Leigh Anne Windham, and Wendy Ward. Every child will need 12 candy-filled eggs by MONDAY. Also, anyone sending drinks should send them by Monday also. Thanks for your help!
April 21- Troy City Kindergarten Day. Children may wear their t-shirts and should bring a SACK LUNCH. PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!!! We will leave the school at 9:30. Drivers are Wendy Ward, Lea Sunday, and Scott Gardner. (Does anyone have a larger cooler you could fill with ice and bring that day?) Please let me know.
April 22- Good Friday Holiday. NO SCHOOL!!!
May 9- Pike Talent Show at 1:30. Please send $2.00 for admission by April 29. I will have a substitute this day so I can attend one of my children's graduation. Please remind students to be on their best behavior.
May13- Graduation. The ceremony will begin at 9:30. Children should arrive at 9:00 and report to the classroom. Parents may go to the cafetorium to get their seats. Boys will wear khakis and a nice shirt and girls will wear cute dresses.(Sunday attire) The end of the year party will be at Jody Singleton's home later that day. More details will come later. Thanks to Dana Thrash and Jody for all their hard work on this!
Every child will need a 6x9 self addressed envelope for the final report card. Please affix 2 stamps to cover postage.

Zoo Trip Details

On Monday, there is a forecast for rain. Unless there are thunderstorms all day, or the zoo won't admit us, we will be going!! Please check "Miss" Stacie's or my blog on Monday morning for any changes in departure time, schedule changes, etc. Otherwise, we will leave at 8:15. Please arrive at school on time! Students can wear a Pike t shirt if they have one. All atudents have adults going with them except 2 or 3. We will meet at the gate so that I can pass out arm band admissions and train tickets. Everyone can tour the zoo at their own pace. We will have assigned times to ride the train as a class and eat lunch. Please remind your child that we represent our school and should be on our BEST behavior! The stage at the Outlook Cafe always seems to become a place where kids like to run and jump. Please talk to your child about NOT doing this. I look forward to a great day! this is always a fun "un-hurried" trip. See you on Monday and have a great weekend!

I hope you all had a great break and are ready to count down to the end of school!
I have several details for you for the month of April.
April 4- Mari Grace will treat us to a pizza and dessert lunch for her birthday. You will only need a drink for lunch that day!
April 8- Early dismissal at 12:40. We will have NO LUNCH, just a big snack like last time.
April 10- Technology Trot- Please see the announcements section of the web site.
April 11- Montgomery Zoo trip. There is NO limit on the number of chaperones for this trip. We'd LOVE to have all of you join us! Please let me know, as soon as you can, if you will be going. The lunch order and money is due FRIDAY, APRIL 1!!! So far, I have received money from: Phenix, Tate, Katie, Emily, Mari Grace, and Caroline.
April 11- The Little Miss Pageant will begin at 6:00. Contestants must arrive by 5:30. Good Luck!!!
April 20- Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Sheree Senn. Each child will need to bring 12 CANDY FILLED EGGS. Those will need to be here on MONDAY, APRIL 18 so that we can get them to Sheree to be hidden! I will be sending a note soon on refreshments and anything else we may need.

Just so that you'll know and can begin making plans, Kindergarten Graduation will be Friday, May 13. After the ceremony, the children leave with their guests for lunch and a little "down time" before we all (both classes) meet back up for our party. Remember, Ashley Eakes will be subbing for me this Thursday, Feb. 24. I know they'll have a great day!

We've had a good week! Thanks to all who sent food or helped with the Valentine's Day party. Thanks, also, for all my Valentine goodies!!

Please continue to work on memorizing the addition families to 6, 7, and 8. They can also use dot numbers, if that helps. Please discourage finger counting. We are doing MUCH better on our oral reading of our take home books. It's true that practice makes perfect!!!! Please continue to READ and DISCUSS these for homework when they come home. All books must be returned in the folder the following day. Thanks for all your help!

I have to go back to the dentist with my husband next Thursday, Feb. 24. His wisdom tooth WILL have to be cut out! Ashley Eakes will be our sub. Please talk to your child about being on their BEST behavior!

The Jumprope For Heart packet(permission slip and donations)will need to be returned by FEB 9. The children will do this during their P.E. time that week.

Phenix will treat us to pizza and cake next Friday, Feb. 11 for his birthday. Your child will only need a drink that day.

100th DAY X 2!

We had a great time celebrating the 100th day on Thursday and Friday!!It took us both days to do all our fun activities! Thanks for sending groups of 100 with your child. The snacks were good to eat, but we also made a graph and found that the skittles weighed the MOST, the cereal weighed the LEAST, and the marshmellows were voted the FAVORITE treat!

The P.E. coaches have asked us to remind you that BOOTS are NOT appropriate footwear for kindergarten activity time. PLEASE send your child to school in tennis shoes. Our P.E. time is 8:45. Thanks.

The money for the Chick-Fil-A kid's meal was due TODAY. I have money from Mari Grace, Haley, and Ensley. Please send that in as soon as you can. The trip is FEBRUARY 7.

The A.I.S.A Can Food Drive will end next Friday the 21st. If you haven't sent your cans, please do so.

Report cards need to be signed and returned (in the blue holder) by Tuesday, Jan. 18!

We are studying winter, weather, and bears. Next Friday, Jan. 21, will be Teddy Bear Day!!! Instead of Show and Tell, every child needs to bring their favorite bear! We have lots of fun activities planned for this special day. Please make sure that the bear is one that your child can handle on their own!! Thanks.

Our next field trip will be on Feb. 7th. Don't forget to come up with some "GROOVY" outfit to wear. A tie dyed t-shirt would be great. The theme is : It's Groovy Great To Educate!! Drivers (prepaid) are Carrie Lee Gardner, Lauren Davis, Sheree Senn, and Ashley Eakes. We will go to the Chick Fil A in Eastdale Mall for lunch. The cost will be $3.25 per child for 4 tenders, fries, a drink, and ice cream. Please send this money BY FRIdAY, JAN. 28!!

On Monday morning, there is a threat of bad weather. In an effort to keep everybody informed of our school schedule, Mrs. Sikes has announced that any cancellations of school or time changes will be given (BY 6:00 A.M.) on the website, W.S.F.A., or W.T.B.F.

The A.I.S.A is holding its annual Food Drive For The Hungry. Mrs. Sikes has challenged our school to have FULL PARTICIPATION!! She would like for every child to donate 5 can goods to this cause. If our school wins the event, She has pledged to spend ONE ENTIRE DAY ON THE ROOF OF THE SCHOOL!!!

I will not be here on Tuesday, Jan 11. Our sub will be "Miss" Mary O'Donnell.

It's birthday time again! This THURSDAY, Ensley will treat our class to a pizza lunch. She celebrated her birthday over the holidays. On FRIDAY, Davis will also treat us with a pizza lunch! His birthday is Jan. 9th. Please send a drink both days.

We're heading towards first grade now and really need to work hard and give our BEST efforts at all times. In the coming week, you will get your child's report card. Please go over it with your child,sign, and return it. Continue to go over papers that come home daily with your child too!

Thanksgiving Fun

We will have our Pow Wow on Tuesday, Nov.23. We have lots of fun activities and a delicious lunch planned. A note came home today with more information about this. Please send the item you are responsible for by FRIDAY, NOV. 19. Thanks! If you have not sent your pillowcase, please do so. I need to do some pre cutting on them!

Pictures will need to be returned by FRIDAY!!! Please make sure to mark the pose you want. These must be returned whether you order or not. These are used in the yearbook.

We should have mastered adding 1 and 0. If your child is NOT CONSISTENTLY getting these, please work a few minutes each night. Also, we are MEMORIZING these problems: 2+2=4 2+3=5.

Please have your child sit correctly and point to each word as they read the laminated decodable books that come home. I think our oral reading should consistently be better. Thanks!

Veteran's Day Holiday- Thursday, Nov. 11

Halloween Fun and More!

If you are driving for our ice cream/park trip, please be here at 12:20. Remember, that's THURSDAY AFTERNOON! If weather becomes an issue I'll let you know. On Friday, we'll have halloween fun in the room with Chantel Hughes and then go to the pep rally.Also, don't forget to work your shift at our BASKETBALL TOSS in the cafeteria on Thursday night. If you didn't sign up, please pitch in if you see a shift needs help. Thanks to those who were able to do this!

We will do a safety unit next week, and follow that up with Thanksgiving. Please go over your child's address and phone number with them. We will end our Thanksgiving unit with a pow wow! Please try to save an oatmeal box, large coffee can, etc. for the tom tom drum we'll make. Also, I'll need every child to bring a light colored (biege, white, etc.) pillowcase for our Indian dress and vests. King size cases are usually TOO BIG. Please send this BY NOVEMBER 10!!!

Veteran's day is November 11 and will be a school holiday! I have a doctor's appointment on Friday the 12th and will have a substitute on that day. We get out for the Thanksgiving holidays on November 23.

The Pumpkin Patch was LOTS of fun!!! Thanks to all parents and grandparents for your help. I was very proud of how we represented our school. The employees made MANY comments about how well behaved our class was. WAY TO GO EVERYBODY! Miss Stacie has some cute photos on her blog. All you who took pictures, be sure to save any really cute ones on a disc for me so they can be included in the end of the year slide show! Thanks!

If you are going on the trip, make sure that you have a copy of your driver's license and insurance on file in the office. Most students have an adult going with them, so if you want to carpool with someone you can set that up on Thursday morning.Don't forget that children should bring a sack lunch and drink. We will have a large cooler to transport these in. Please be at the school at 8:00 SHARP so that we can arrive and pay on time.They will also need to wear their field trip t-shirt and comfortable shoes. TENNIS SHOES would be best!

We had a great turnout for Grandparent's Day. Thanks to all who visited us on Friday!! I hope you all had a pleasant and restful weekend.

This week, we are studying fall and harvest time. Be sure to look for signs of fall with your child! Next week, we will be learning about apples and Johnny Appleseed. Please send an apple ( any color and labeled in some way) on Tuesday, October 5. We DO NOT HAVE SCHOOL on Monday, October 4 because of teacher inservice. Please make yourself a reminder about these things!

We will be going to the Pumpkin Patch on Thursday, October 7. Money is due on October 1st.I have gotten money from the following people: Mari Grace and parents, Faith and parent, Tate and parent, Ensley, Davis and parent, Grace and parent, Emily Ward and parent. The cost is $10.00 for kids and $5.00 for parents.

Remember, badges and tattoos need to be bought on WEDNESDAY!!!
The next home game and pep rally will be Friday, October 8th against Fort Dale. Everyone is encouraged to wear RED to the game.

Library day is Wednesday. Let your child put their book back in their backpack when you have read it. We keep in it our cubbies so that we'll be sure to have it to turn in on Wednesday.

Please remember to put ALL money in envelopes or Ziplock bags. That way your change can come back to you in them. Lunch orders need to be decided on AT HOME and WRITTEN DOWN before coming to school!! Thanks for your help.

We continue to make progress, but need to improve our listening habits. Your child should be able to identify the upper and lower case letters from Aa to Yy. We will finish the alphabet this week. If you have letter cards at home, take a few minutes to see if there are any that are causing them problems. We will begin adding 1 more in the coming days. Please go over the papers that come home every day to keep up with your child's progress.

Monday, September 6, is Labor Day. No school that day! On Tuesday, Sept. 7, we will be taking school pictures. Please make yourself a reminder so that you won't forget after the long weekend!

We play Macon East this Friday in Patriot Stadium at 7:00. That means we will be attending our first pep rally on Friday afternoon around 2:00. If you feel your child will be uncomfortable at the pep rally, you may want to make arrangements to check out early, or let me know so that I can make arrangememnts to do something here at school. Don't forget to continue to send tattoo and badge money in a Ziploc (SEPARATE FROM LUNCH MONEY SINCE THEY GO TO DIFFERENT PLACES AND I DON"T HAVE CHANGE IN MY ROOM) on Wednesday mornings. Thanks for your cooperation.

Homecoming Week will be the week of September 13-17. Lots of exciting dress-up days and the Wagon Parade are being planned. I'll be giving you more information on this in the coming days! T shirts must be ordered and paid for by THIS FRIDAY, Sept. 3.

Don't forget the Blue Jean Ball on Sept 11, at 7:30 in Troy University's Stadium Club.

The Book Fair will be at our school the week of Sept.19-24. On the final day, Friday , we will celebrate Grandparents Day. Please be notifying those special guests who will be attending since I will be needing those names later.

Pizza, Pizza, And More Pizza!!

Faith will treat our class to a "HOORAY, I DIDN'T HAVE TO GET A CAST" lunch on Friday. (The specialist in Dothan said her injury didn't require one!) You will need to send a drink and anything else your child may want. On Monday, Emily will serve us pizza and dessert in honor of her birthday. Happy Birthday, Emily! Again, you will need to supply your own drink.

Please remember, tattoo and badge money is now due on Wednesday mornings. Also, ALL money sent to school should have your child's name on it and be in an envelope or Ziploc. Thanks for your cooperation.

Our sight word list now includes the following words: the, a, an, and, black, blue, white, red, yellow, green, purple, orange, brown, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten. Please make cards for any of these that your child cannot identify and work with them for a few minutes as often as you can. Repetition really helps with these. We work on all of them daily at school. We continue to learn our letters and the sounds associated with them. By Friday, we will have gone through the letter Hh. Please look at your child's daily papers and go over any problem areas you may see.

Several of you are still lacking the notarized handbook sheet. Please return ALL FORMS on Monday. Thanks.

Fridays are special in our classroom!It's Show and Tell Day! Children may bring an item to share or tell us about something if they'd like. We do not allow "extra items" (toys, jewelery, etc) on other days. Beginning August 20, Friday will be Spirit Day. The Jamboree football game will be that night at Patriot Stadium. The children may wear jerseys, cheerleader suits, etc. if they have one. Throughout football season, the cheerleaders sell booster badges(50 cents) and tatoos ($1.00). Orders MUST be made on THURSDAY MORNINGS and will be sent home in folders that afternoon. That way, you can apply the tatoos and badges Friday morning BEFORE school. Helping up to 16 children apply tatoos and badges on Friday morning can be extremely CHAOTIC! Thanks for ordering early.

The Back To School Pep Rally will be Thursday night, August 19. Check the announcements section on the home page for the time. That should be posted soon.

This week we have worked on establishing routines, getting to know one another, color and color word recognition, recognizing the numbers 1-20, and number words. Please look at the work that comes home in folders each day to see how your child is progressing. Thanks for all your help and support!

What A Day!

WOW! We really had a great day learning each other's names, touring the school, and getting use to our daily routine. We made nametags and did a few coloring sheets. Starting tomorrow, be sure to remember to check the folder for things being sent home. We have a precious group and everyone got along really well!

Please remember to put names on drinks, papers, etc. Also, money should be labled and in an envelope or Ziploc.

We were rushed at the end of the day, so we only had a drink for our afternoon snack. Some of them may have been ready for a snack when they got home! Sorry! We'll do much better as things settle down a little.

Welcome to kindergarten! The kindergarten supply list is located at the bottom of the announcements section of our home page. I believe Miss Stacie also has a copy on her blog. The Open House will be Thursday, August 5, at 6:00. Children are welcome to come, but it is a time for getting all the details for the coming year and doing some paperwork. You might want to wait and bring your child and labeled supplies on Friday between 7:30 and 12:00. Whatever will be most convenient for you is fine!

I'm really looking forward to a great fun-filled year. You will be AMAZED at the progress your child will make in kindergarten! Make the most of what's left of summer, and I'll see you all on the 5th.

We had a GREAT time at Field Day today. Thanks to Mandie Baker for helping me out!

Graduation is Friday at 9:30. You may arrive at 9:00 to drop off your child and find you a seat. Please do not send your child to the classroom before 9:00, because Ms. Stacie and I will be setting up and getting organized! Thanks!

After Graduation, you will have a couple of hours to eat, rest and change before meeting at the Troy Country Club at 12:30 for our swimming party!! Even though there will be a lifeguard on duty, every child must be accompanied by an adult. If you are not attending, please let me know. THANKS to Marilee Hussey and Jacque Chirico for handling this for our class. The party will end at 2:30.

The SACS Accredidation team will be here next Wednesday and Thursday evaluating our school! Please discuss the importance of good behavior and respect with your child. This is an oppurtunity for us to show what a WONDERFUL environment our school is!

We will leave here at 8:30 for the zoo next Friday. Please be here BY 8:15 so that we can be sure of how we're transporting everyone. If you plan to stay in Montgomery, or cannot transport children to or from the zoo for whatever reason, please let me know so that I can work out transportation. Many children have someone going with them.

Zoo money is due WEDNESDAY! The costs are Kid's admission and train-$6.50, Adult train-$2.00, and kid's lunch-$3.00. Even though parents will pay their admission at the gate, please let me know if you plan to go. This is usually a fun trip and there are no limitations on the number of people we can bring!!

In preparation for the visit from the SACS team next week, there will be a clean-up day at the school this Sunday, Apr. 11 from 1:30-4:30.You may call ahead for a specific task or just show up and help where ever you are needed. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

The Little Miss pageants will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at 6:00. All entry forms AND money are due on Tuesday April 13!!!

The junior class is selling candy grams through Thursday, Feb 11. These are valentine messages with a piece of candy attached. The cost is .50 per card. You might want to have one sent to your child as a surprise. A few have said they'll be sending some to children in the other class! If you are interested in buying these, please send order with who it's for and money in a ziploc or an envelope by next Thursday!!!

The Valentine party will be Friday, February 12 in the afternoon. Please send valentines on FRIDAY because we won't deliver them before then. Refreshments for the party may be sent on Thursday or Friday morning. Here is a list to remind you of who is responsible for refreshments:

Show and Tell is on FRIDAY ONLY!!!! There are some children who are bringing items on other days. Please check to see if your child is slipping some of these things in on OTHER days. If this continues to be a problem, we will have to discontinue Show and Tell. Also, please use your "Good Judgement" as to whether or not your child is mature enough and focused enough to wear all those silly bands to school. There have been a few who I've asked to enjoy those ONLY on the week ends or after school!

On the next report card, your child will be graded on his/her birthday, address, phone number, and parents' names. We will work on this next week during our unit time. If you live at one of those LONG County Road addresses, please help out at home also.

Don't forget to send your 100 item food baggie on Monday, Jan. 25! Thanks!

In math, we have learned the 5 and 6 families(problems that EQUAL 5 or 6) Your child should have memorized 3+2=5, 3+3=6, and 4+2=6. The other problems either add 1 or 0 and are easily solved. We are Now working on MEMORIZING the 7 family. Please help you child memorize 4+3=7 and 5+2=7. Work on a few at the time, then add others until you have them all. We're working hard on this at school too! After naxt week, you can add the 8 family!! 4+4=8, 5+3=8, and 6+2=8. We are really moving quicker now, and I want everyone keeping up. Just a little fun practice at home usually helps with this!!! Thanks.

The Shakespeare Festival trip was a success, and I'd like to thank all parents who helped with this!

Please send $1.00 by DEC 11, for milk and cookies with Santa on Polar Express Day. Also, don't forget that children can wear comfortable and practical pajamas that day!

Our Christmas party will be on Friday, December18, at 9:15. Please feel free to join us as we exchange gifts and have refreshments! Children are free to leave after this. If the Patriots win the game on Friday afternoon, there will be a celebration party at the school Friday night at 6:00!

The Pow Wow will be Monday. Don't forget your vegetable for the soup(girls) and your money for the fruit(Kade and Ben).

Bobby will feed us pizza and drinks on Tuesday, Nov. 24 to celebrate his birthday. If you think your child will need more than a couple of slices of pizza and a drink, you may want to send a little something extra. That means lunch on Monday will be soup and fruit, and lunch on Tuesday will be pizza!

We will be going to the Shakespeare Theatre on Friday, Dec. 4 at 8:00 SHARP! All drivers MUST have a copy of their driver's license and insurance eards on file in the office! We will go to the Eastdale Mall to eat lunch at Chick-Fil-A in the food court after the play. Each child will get 4 chicken nuggets, fries, a drink, and ice cream for $2.95. Please send this in by WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2!!!!! Parents may order what they want at the food court. If you are not going to the play, but would like to meet us for lunch, that would be great! We usually arrive at the mall by around 11:00. Please talk to your child (and we will here too!) about the importance of being a quiet, still, attentive audience so that we don't distract the actors doing the LIVE show. Thanks.

State Championship!!!

The Pike Patriots will be in the Championship Game this Friday at 1:00!!!! School will dismiss at 12:00 on Friday, Nov. 20. All k-5 students will be out front at 11:40 for pick-up. There will be NO afterschool care on Friday. Children must be picked up NO LATER than 12:00, so that we can all get to the game to support our Patriots! We will eat a mid-morning snack only on Friday. There will be a pep rally for the team on Thursday night. Watch the announcements section for further details. Tickets are on sale in the office for $8.00 this week. If you wait to purchase them at the door, they will be $10.00. See you at the game. GO PIKE!!!!

Veteran's Day and Indian Pow Wow

We will have a Veteran;s Day assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10:15. To go along with this, we'd like to fill the middle grassy area of our front lawn with flags. You may find the kind that you just stick down in the ground at Dollar Tree , Dollar General, etc. If your child would like to place a flag on the lawn, the flag will need to be at school BY Wednesday.

In the coming weeks, we will be studying the pilgrims, Indians, and Thanksgiving. Every child will need to bring a light colored pillow case( biege, white, or tan) to school by next Friday, Nov. 13! The king sized ones are usually too BIG. Thanks!

Wow! I can't believe November is already here! We had a great time at The Cone Zone and the playground on Friday! Thanks to Ella, Mandie, and Miss Clarice for the birthday lunch and favors. Everyone really enjoyed it. I'd also like to thank those of you who helped at the Halloween Carnival on Thursday night.

The following people will be our drivers for The Shakespeare Festival in December:
Renee Cole, Kim Dendy, Brooke Meeks, and Conley Freeman. If we don't already have your drivers license and insurance copies on file, you will have to send those in to me by Dec. 1!! Thanks! The admission money MUST be sent in by this WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4 in order to reserve our seats!!! If your child is going, I MUST have the money by then.

Veteran's Day will be celebrated with a school holiday on Monday, November 9. Enjoy your three day weekend!

The first play-off game will be here this Friday night. Remember, tattoos and badges need to be bought on Thursday mornings. There will be a pep rally this Friday. Please support our PATRIOTS as we make another run for the State Championship!!!

We will be studying safety this week. Please help your child fill out the personal info sheet and send it back ASAP. Those items will be required on their report cards later in the year. We will work on them at school, and I encourage you to do the same at home.

Shakespeare Festival

The Wagon Parade went well on Friday and our little "wild animals" looked GREAT! Your stuffed animals will be in your child's backpack today. Thanks for sharing those with us.

I still need Cone Zone money from: Ella Claire, Kade, and Drew. Please send this by TUESDAY! Remember, Ella Claire will feed us lunch and the ice cream will be our snack, so all you'll need on Friday will be a snack drink.

We have heard back from the Shakespeare Festival and our trip is scheduled for Friday, December 4. We will be seeing the play, Ferdinand and the Bull. Due to limited seating, they only allow us 4 chaperones and no siblings. Drivers will need to be able to carry, at least, 3 children in their cars. This will be first come , first serve, so please let me know if you want to go. The cost for the children is $15.00 each, while adult tickets are $17.00. All money must be turned in by NOVEMBER 4, so that we can reserve our seating!!! Please mark this on your calendar and make SURE that you have it in by the deadline. Thanks. We will be making lunch plans closer to the date of the trip.

After Fall Break News

We had a great trip to the Pumpkin Patch! Thanks to all the parents who went and for your help.

When we return to school, it will be Homecoming Week. Please refer to the previous blog for each day's theme and how to dress.On Friday, the Wagon Parade will begin at 11:30. We'd love for you to attend! The route starts in front of the new building, goes past the old building, and down the road next to the gym to the stadium. Please do not come into the classroom before the parade begins.After the parade, we will be seated in the stands for the pep rally that begins at 12:00. If you don't want to stand along the parade route, you can go on to the stadium and see us there. Our theme is The Lion King and we need stuffed jungle animals to go in our wagon. If you have some that we can use, please start sending them in on Wednesday and we will return them after the parade.School will officially dismiss at 1:00 for those who do not leave with their parents after the parade and pep rally. Early bird pick up will begin at 12:45. If your child will stay at school until 1:00 AND needs to order lunch, I MUST know this so that I can provide the lunchroom with a count of the lunches they'll need to prepare. I have to give them the count by WEDNESDAY, OCT. 23!!! Lunch will either be a hotdog or hambuger and chips. If you are ordering, please specify which one you want. I need all children to bring a light snack for Friday morning.

Please don't forget to let me know if you can help out at the Fall Festival on Thursday, Oct. 29. We still need lots of help!!

On Friday, Oct. 30, Ella Claire will treat us to a lunch of pizza and cookies for her birthday! You will only need to send a drink for lunch that day. That afternoon, from 1:00-2:00, we will go to the Cone Zone for ice cream and fun on the playground. Each child will get one scoop of their choice of ice cream for $2.00. Last year, they all got thirsty after playing for a while, so please send a small water or drink that we can carry over with us. Send the money by Wednesday, Oct 28. Thanks. We will not be dressing up for Halloween at school, because of all the dressing up the week before for Homecoming. They may wear their Halloween shirts or the usual red, white, and blue clothing.

Finally, report cards will come home on October 21 and will need to be signed and returned by Oct. 23. The first grading period is on social growth and work habits. Please go over the report with your child.

Johnny Appleseed Week

Hello! We had a great time on Friday at Grandparent's Day and the children really did a wonderful job at the performance. Please thank any Grandparents and also, any of you, who bought things for our classroom at the Bookfair. I appreciate it!

This week we will be studying Johnny Appleseed and I need each child to bring an apple of their choice by THURSDAY.

We've had a good week, but a few of us are getting "REALLY COMFORTABLE", and more apples than usual are coming down. We are working through this here, and I'll let you know if I need any support from home. Encourage your child to listen carefully, give their best efforts, and follow directions! We will be adding the words:have, big, small, little, in, you, and your to our sight word list next week.

We play Glenwood here this Friday at 7:00. We will attend to the pep rally tomorrow. Go Patriots!!!

Pike has opened our own Bank/Credit Union. If your child doesn't already have a sevings account, you can open one at our bank. You received a form for this today. The fee to open an account is $2.00 and a minimum of $5.00 is required for the first deposit. We'll deposit throughout the year on "Banking Day." You can deposit as little or as much as you choose and help your child see their money grow. This is an OPTIONAL PROGRAM.

You also got a gift wrap packet on Wednesday. This is a school fundraiser. The deadline is Sept. 30. Please do not use red ink on any of these forms!!

Jayden will celebrate his birthday by treating us to a lunch of pizza and cookie cake on Tuesday, Sept22. You will only need to bring a drink on Tuesday for lunch.Thanks Mom and Jayden!!!

Grandparent's Day is next Friday, Sept.25 at 9:30. I think that I have all the information I need now! However, your child may check out after the program to spend the day with their sprcial guests. Please send me a note, BY TUESDAY if possible, to let me know if your child is checking out and with whom, or if they will be staying all day. Thanks!

Wow, the short week seemed to really fly by! We're making progress and have learned the correct formation and "sound" all the way to the letter Oo. We added the sight words and, and we. Next week ,we'll be adding he, she, and have.

Grandparent's Day is Sept. 25 at 9:30. Please be checking with your families so that you can let me know ASAP who will be attending and the number of gifts that will be needed. (Example-Husband and wife-one gift, Divorced grandparents who will BOTH be attending-two gifts, Two different sets of grandparents-two gifts.) If you have questions, just give me a call. We try very hard not to leave out anyone who is coming. As you can see, we will have alot to do to make this day special, so PLEASE let me know WHO is coming and the NUMBER OF GIFTS NEEDED by TUESDAY, SEPT 15!!!!! Thanks for your help with this.

Things continue to go well in our classroom! We need to welcome Donna Chen, who joined us on Thursday of this week. Please continue to look over your child's papers so that you can keep up with what we are working on. If you see papers that have been stamped "Please sign and return," those need to come back to me to be filed in your child's records folder here at school.

Please make sure that you label your child's drinks, lunches, etc to avoid mix-ups. Also, please send all money in an ENVELOPE or ZIPLOC. No loose money.

Our first home game will be next Friday. We will be attending the pep rally at the end of the day on Friday, around 2:15. If you feel that this will be a problem for your child, please let me know.

Pumpkin Patch money-$11.00- is due next Friday. Our drivers for the trip will be : Ella's grandmother, Jason Terry, Beth Bell, and Bobby Hussey. Thanks to all of you.

WOW! 16 days of school already! We're having a great time together and learning alot! Our sight word list now includes: a, an, the, here, is, and see. Next week, we'll introduce on and I. Please make flash cards of words your child is having difficulty with. Play with them for a few minutes each night until they become more comfortable with them. We work with them EVERY day, so we should ALL have them eventually. We continue practicing writing our letters Aa-Hh correctly, as well as, our numbers 1,2 and 3.Evryone should be able to read the color words and number words(one-ten) by now.

I have two drivers, for sure, to the Pumpkin Patch. They are Jason Terry and Ella's grandmom, Clarice Griffin. If you are going. let me know. Don't forget the kid's money of $11.00 is due Sept. 11.

The P.T.O. is hosting an Open House on Tuesday. Sept. 1, at 6:30.Let's all support them and their projects.

Tattoo and badge money is due on THURSDAY MORNING in a Ziploc or an envelope.

Our library day is Wednesday. We began checking out books this week.Please read your child's book with them and return it by the following Tuesday, if possible. We retell them to the class on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and can earn rewards if we do it EVERY week! If a child forgets his book, he will not be allowed to check out a new one until it has been returned. Let's work hard to develop good habits and always put our book back in our backpack after reading it.
Remind tour child that are responsible for the book and are only borrowing it. Thanks for your help with this.

We've had another great week! I introduced the letters Aa-Dd and we began work in our math workbook. We continue to work on color words (almost EVERYONE already knows them) and number words (SOME of us still need a little work on these.) Our first sight words will be : the, a, an, is, here, and see.Please go over papers that come home and show your child what they need to work on. We continue to practice writing on lined paper. Remind your child to use the lines correctly always starting at the TOP and pulling DOWN! The letters are formed using straight lines, slanted lines, curves, and circles. Everyone is working hard at this and practice will make us perfect.

Our first field trip will be Friday, October 9, to Dream Field Farms in Union Springs. I will need drivers to help get everyone there. If you would like to go with us, let me know. Please keep in mind that we will HAVE to leave at 8:00 SHARP in order to get there on time and that you will be expected to drive there AND back and stay with your group the entire time. If this isn"t possible, we ask that you not sign up to drive children and just meet us there. The program begins at nine o'clock and runs until one o'clock. We will rotate between 5 stations and the "inflatables" that the kids will LOVE! We will also eat lunch on the grounds. Because they don't offer much variety, we will bring our own sack lunches from home. I will not be taking a cooler, so freeze ALL drinks the night before. Also, lunch may come a little later than usual. so please feed your child a good breakfast. Thanks for your help with this. The cost for the trip is $11.00 per child. We will have to send in a deposit, so please get your money to me by September 11, so we can reserve our spot. Adults will pay $5.00 when they GET THERE and can buy lunch from the concession stand or bring their own. You do NOT have to send me your money, only let me know if you can drive. If you plan to drive, you must send me a copy of your driver's license and insurance card to be filed in the office. Thanks.

Football season "officially" begins next week. We will be buying badges and tattoos on THURSDAY MORNINGS. I will send them home on Thursday afternoons so that you can help put them on your child before school on Friday mornings.The cost for a booster badge or a tattoo is $1.00. Since Friday mornings are so hectic, please make every effort to send this money on Thursday morning only!!

The P.T.O. is encouraging all families to make an effort to sell 3 Spirit Cards. This is their largest fund raiser and the cards are great for those who purchase them.

My computer is now working! You may e-mail me if you need to do so.

We will be having sight and hearing tests on Wednesday morning. This is done by the Charity League, and they will let you know if there are any problem areas for your child so that you can have follow-up testing if needed.

We are having a terrific week and making lots of progress!

First Week of School

We've had a GREAT week! The only thng that we need to work on is our listening habits. We are all making progres, though! We have been working on letter recognition, color word recognition, and identifying the NUMBERS1-10 AND the NUMBER WORDS one through ten. Please look over your child's daily papers and go over any problem areas you may see. Some of us are having a little trouble writing on lined paper. If you want to practice with your child, just turn over and use the back.

My teacher computer is still "down," so if you are e-mailing me, I am NOT able to get those. Please call or send me a note if you have questions. Sorry for this. It should be corrected soon.

I still need the notarized consent form from Bobby. These were due in the office on Friday, so please get that in as soon as possible!! Also, don't forgat to order a field trip t-shirt, if you want one.

My warming tray has "died" due to a dangerous short in the cord! If anyone has an old one that you don't use, we'd LOVE to borrow it! I have some class funds from donations last year, so I could just go buy one, if I knew where to look. Any ideas????

As a reminder, morning traffic on the school grounds is ONE-WAY! Mrs. Sikes has asked us to remind all parents to drive WITH the flow of traffic! Also, please remember not to park OR get out in the morning and afternoon loading areas!
